Pictures of the Vehicle in Which We Plan to Travel the Country

My family’s epic adventure begins in 23 days.

So on Saturday we took The Bus for a test drive. Here she is:

I can’t wait to hit the road.

Check out our itinerary HERE. I’m hoping to connect with as many writers as possible, so if we’re traveling close to you and you wouldn’t mind getting a group of writers together, I’d love to hang out and hear about your writing lives. We could meet in a library, coffee shop, someone’s house, or on our bus. Email me at shawnsmucker@yahoo.com if you’d like to talk more about this.

  1. I was expecting a more traditional RV. Man, was I surprised! I particularly like the golden bird on the front. It’s so fly.

  2. Dude, that is a like a tour bus! You need an awesome name for it like the Blue Comet or Blue Bullet. Looking forward to seeing it in action when you hit Ohio!

  3. When I was younger we did something similar. Not quite as long and epic, but extremely memorable and fun. We went from Atlanta all the way up to Gettysburg and back. Have a great time!

  4. Nah… the eagle should make a great belt buckel ! Hope
this trip is all you dream and hope… my wife Dawn and I hope
to hook up somewhere along the route !

Great idea! I am so envious! Safe travels … all the best

    1. Good call with the belt – especially during our swing through the south. Let us know if we get close to you guys – would be great to meet in person.

  5. I’m at once appalled and excited. I don’t know how to handle all this awesome. It’s too much for me. Can’t wait to see you in Tulsa!

    1. After my first driving experience on the twisting back roads of central PA, I’m looking forward to the long straight highways of the Midwest (and also meeting the Luitwieler clan).

  6. 1. What’s your fuel budget?
    2. You must meet an airbrush guy early in the trip. This machine needs some flames, sunsets or dolphins.
    3. Susan says, “Jim. Look at me……never.”

    1. You’ve never met my uncle, have you? Although who wouldn’t be up for a good airbrush of a bucksome woman with tattoos everywhere and a unicorn in the background?

  7. beins that used to be willy nelsons bus i hope u searcherd it very well before hitting the road, lol

  8. I don’t see anything for New England on the itinerary. Mount Rushmore has nothing on my back yard!

  9. Sweet, sweet candy that’s a nice rig.

    Two questions:
    1. Can I drive it?
    2. What’s her top speed???

Shawn – You’re livin’ my dream so I’ll be following along intently. Be sure to exclaim it’s awesomeness, even if it’s only moderately awesome, otherwise I’ll never convince Jenn that we need to start planning our cross-country bus trip.

    Drive safe –

    Jason

  10. Is this Sam Beiler’s? Also, did you have to get any certification to drive this thing?? It looks awesome!

  11. HOW FITTING YOU SHOULD HAVE THE BUS ONCE OWNED BY WILLIE NELSON. HE WROTE SOME OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS, AND YOU ARE A WRITER OF BOOKS. I AM PLANNING ON GOING TO EBAY TO GET ONE OF YOUR BOOKS. JOYCE
